Senior Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh on Saturday visited the Guyana Shore Base Inc (GYSBI) career fair held at the National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara where he interacted with persons onsite including the principals and senior staff of GYSBI, as well as prospective applicants.
Dr. Singh commended the company for arranging the event and the wider series of career fairs of which this is the first installment. He stated that the fair provides ample illustration of the job opportunities that have arisen and that will continue to arise from Guyana becoming an oil and gas producer.
Minister Singh further stated that the Government would like every Guyanese person to be an active participant in the exciting transformation that is underway in Guyana, including by being able to take up the thousands of job opportunities that will inevitably arise.
He further highlighted Government’s strong emphasis on education and training, and he urged the Guyanese public to avail themselves of the training opportunities being presented so that they can acquire the skills that are needed in the new economy that is emerging.
Even as he applauded GYSBI for holding the event, Minister Singh urged the company to consider hosting similar events in all three counties of Guyana and called on other companies operating in the oil and gas sector and in the broader private sector to conduct similar activities.
It is estimated that over 750 persons attended Saturday’s event. A similar event is being held by GYSBI today at the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground, West Coast Demerara, and on October 16 at the Enmore Martyrs Monument Ground, East Coast Demerara.
