Jamaal Abrams, a 29-year-old mason of Lot 1343 Westminster, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was on Friday, remanded to prison for the murder of another man, who he allegedly stabbed to death during an argument over “bush weed”.

Abrams, called “Gold Teeth”, was brought before Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that November 15, at Policeman Corner, La Parfaite Harmonie, WBD, he murdered Sherwayne Underwood.

The murder accused was remanded until December 15.

Police Headquarters said that Sherwayne Underwood, 32, of La Parfaite Harmonie, WBD was stabbed to death by Abrams.

Reports indicate that the men were at Policeman Corner imbibing when they had a misunderstanding over the type of marijuana that the now-deceased man was using.

Abrams, the Police noted, said Underwood was using “bush weed”. As a result, he dealt Underwood a punch to the side of his head and a fight ensued between them.

During the fight, Abrams whipped out a knife and dealt the 32-year-old man a stab to his abdomen. After being stabbed, the injured man ran a short distance away before he collapsed.

He was picked up in a conscious state by public-spirited persons and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injury.

Abrams, who had made good his escape, was later arrested and escorted to La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, where he gave a video-recorded statement under caution, admitting to the crime, Police Headquarters reported.
