Ganja planter fined, to do 6 months of community service


A 41-year-old man who Police found with four cannabis plants was on Wednesday charged.

Michael Clarke Osafo Kasy of 42 Quamina Road, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD) appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court. 

Kasy pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that he cultivated four prohibited plants. 

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on November 9, 2021, at around 15:00hrs at Quamina Road, Beterverwagting, ECD, a party of Policemen carried out a search exercise at the home of Kasy and found the cannabis plants.

As such, he was told of the offence committed and admitted to owning the plants for personal use.

He was arrested and placed in Police custody.  The Magistrate after listening to the facts sentenced Kasy to pay a fine of $25,000 together with six months of community service.

He has to do the community service every Friday at the Beterverwagting Police Station.
