Fisherman beaten, robbed at Unity Junction; 1 arrested

A 42-year-old fisherman was on Saturday beaten and robbed by three bandits with a steel bar while he was awaiting transportation at the Unity Junction, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Reports are that at about 5:00hrs on Saturday, the victim was at the junction awaiting transportation for work when he was approached by an unknown red motorcar with three occupants.

While the driver inquired where the victim was going, one of the occupants exited the vehicle with a steel bar in his hand and snatched the fisherman’s Samsung S10 cellphone, which was valued at $200,000, and dealt him several lashes about his body and his head and made good their escape.

Nevertheless, the victim was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where he is presently receiving treatment.

One of the suspects, which is known as “Thick Slice” was subsequently contacted and arrested while investigators are still searching for the other two suspects.
