On Thursday, January 13 at about 12:30hrs on Parika Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) a motor lorry GZZ 2284 that was driven by Abdullah Mohamed, 27, 61 Rockers Street, Tuschen New Housing Scheme, EBE collided with pedal cyclist Collin Mendonza, 45, a father of three, of Hydronie Village, EBE.
Police said the motor lorry was proceeding north on the western carriageway of Parika Public Road, EBE at a fast rate of speed, and the cyclist – who was on the eastern carriageway – rode into the path of the motor lorry.
Mendonza was picked up by public-spirited persons in an unconscious state and escorted to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was treated and later referred to Georgetown Public Hospital; he died there on Saturday.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on Mohamed which gave a reading of .000% micrograms. He is expected to be charged soon.
