Following a three-year hiatus, Orange the Runway Volume 2 was launched on Friday at Guyana’s Marriot Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown, under the theme “Through the Looking Glass.” The event is a marriage between the arts and activism and aims to raise awareness of the issues surrounding Gender-Based Violence through the use of fashion and the arts in observance of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

At the launching ceremony, former Miss Guyana contestant, Jamicia McCalman and founder of the event, said that she is optimistic that this new approach would reduce the prevalence of gender-based violence, which is on an upward trajectory.

The event, according to McCalman, is a call to civil society, religious institutions, the government, policymakers, and citizens of this country. She added that the initiative will allow members of society to practice empathy and be considerate of people who experience gender-based violence.

The event is slated for Sunday, December 4, 2022, at the Guyana Marriott Hotel. Patrons will witness showstopping performances, ten award presentations, and intricate designs from local creatives.

The event aims to raise funds for the implementation of gender-based violence and mental health campaigns, launch projects to aggressively tackle sexual violence, and honor Guyanese and Caribbean creatives, activists, advocates, and survivors of gender-based violence while giving them a vast platform to bring awareness and change to a pressing issue that continues to plague our society.
