A man was on Monday sentenced to 18 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to trafficking 88 grammes of marijuana.

Keino Roberts, 27, a farmer of Brush Dam, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

Roberts pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on September 24, 2021, at Brush Dam, Buxton, he had in his possession 88 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

The Magistrate sentenced Roberts to 18 months behind bars and fined him $17,500.

According to reports, on the day in question, following a report of assault and threatening language against Roberts, a party of Policemen visited his home and informed him of the report that was made against him. He however denied threatening his neighbour.

Subsequently, a search was conducted on his property and a black plastic bag containing the cannabis was found. He was then told of the offence and he replied by saying “this is all I get, we could do something.” As a result, he was arrested and charged with the present offence.
