Aquiell Abrams, a 30-year-old unemployed woman, was on Friday, remanded to prison on a murder charge over the death of her reputed husband, who she allegedly stabbed to death. The Lot 109 Sideline Dam, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) woman was arraigned before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on October 10, at the aforementioned address, she murdered Michael Wilson, a 40-year-old labourer . Abrams, who was not required to plead to the indictable charge, was remanded until November 30 when the case will be called for statements.
Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at around 08:15h on Monday. Enquiries disclosed that Wilson and the woman are common-law partners and lived together at the aforementioned address for the past two years.
They occupied the upper flat of a two-storey concrete building measuring about 30 feet in length and 25 feet in width in a fenced yard. Domestic problems existed between them, and the now deceased man frequently accused his spouse of being unfaithful and would physically and verbally abuse her, the Police revealed.
According to the Police report, on Sunday, the woman informed her partner that she was ending their relationship and would be returning to her parents’ home. However, at around 08:00h on Monday, the woman and Wilson got into a heated argument while she was in the process of packing her belongings to move out of the home they shared.
Police said that Wilson, who was armed with a knife, assaulted the woman, leaving her with a cut on her forearm. The woman then disarmed him and dealt him two stabs to his abdomen. As such, an Emergency Medical Technician was summoned to the scene and escorted the injured man to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he later died.
