Duo charged with trafficking 47 grammes of marijuana

Two men were on Monday jointly charged with trafficking 47 grammes of marijuana.

The men, Avinash Inshanally called Victor, a 29-year-old welder/ fabricator of Lot 405 Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), and Kevin Simpson, a 35-year-old vendor of 8th Street Diamond, EBD appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs- Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. 

They pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on October 29, 2021, at 8th Avenue Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD, they had 47 grammes of marijuana in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks conducted an operation at 8th Avenue Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD, and intercepted the two men with a quantity of small Ziploc bags containing marijuana. 

They were both told of the offence and arrested. 

The Magistrate after listening to the facts granted  the men $120,000 bail each. A conditionality attached to bail is that they report to CANU Headquarters every week until the hearing and determination of their trial. Their next court date is December 13, 2021.
