Drunken driver collides with Policemen on motorcycle


A drunk driver swerved into a motorcycle on Wednesday at about 19:00 hrs, leaving two policemen injured. The accident occurred at Ogle Access Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Injured are 21-year-old Leroy Forde of Lot 76 Graham Street, Plaisance, ECD, and 20-year-old Quain Whyte of Lot 67 Section ‘C’ South, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown.

They Break News understands that motor jeep PJJ 5014, which is owned and driven by 45-year-old Nateram Ruplall, of Lot 40 Area H Ogle, ECD, swerved into a motorcycle bearing registration number CH 5797, which is owned and driven by Forde. 

Further, the jeep was proceeding south along the eastern side of Ogle Access Road, ECD, while the motorcycle was proceeding north along the western side of the said road. 

As both vehicles approached each other, the jeep swerved from south to west across the road, and into the path of the motorcycle. As a result, the motorcycle collided with the ride-side front bumper of the jeep. As a result of the collision, Forde and Whyte fell onto the road and received injuries.

They were both picked up in a conscious state with help from public-spirited citizens and placed in an ambulance which took them to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). Upon arrival at the hospital, they were examined by a doctor.

Forde sustained a broken right leg, while Whyte received injuries to his neck and other parts of his body. Both of them were admitted to the GPHC.

Additionally, a breathalyzer test was conducted on Ruplall, and he was found to be above the prescribed limit, with readings of 0.162% and 0.175 % micrograms of alcohol in his breath. 

He was arrested and placed in custody as investigations continue.
