Driver escapes unhurt as lorry bursts into flames at Corentyne

The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) is currently investigating what caused a truck to catch fire along the Number 62 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.

On December 10, at around 7:15 hours, Liston Velloza, 53, was driving motor lorry GYY 6066 proceeding north on the western driving lane at Number 62 Village, Public Road when the right side rear tyre blew out.

This caused the vehicle to swerve to the left side parapet; it later came to a halt. The lorry subsequently burst into flames from the engine compartment, after which Velloza exited the vehicle.

A fire tender attached to the Skeldon Fire Station was summoned to the scene. Firefighters extinguished the blaze. The entire engine compartment and front of the lorry were destroyed.  The driver received no injuries.

Investigations are ongoing.
