A 58-year-old man was on Friday remanded to prison on a charge which alleged that he trafficked 11 pounds of marijuana. Avery Cummings who was deported from the USA for a similar offence, appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Courts.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on November 3, 2021, at Swam Sam Ville, Linden-Soesdyke Highway, he had 5.3 kilogrammes (11 pounds of marijuana) in his possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was represented by Attorney-at-law Lindon Amsterdam.
Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks went to the home of the defendant and conducted a search.
During the operation, several parcels of creepy weed (foreign) weighing over 5.3 kilogrammes were found. The CANU ranks also found several Ziploc bags containing cannabis, cannabis seeds amounting to 3.68 grammes, and 3.5 grammes of Hashish.
The items were seized and Cummings was arrested and taken to CANU headquarters. The Magistrate after listening to the facts remanded Cummings to prison until January 3, 2022.
