Cyclist hospitalised after swerving into car driven by Policeman

A 55-year-old labourer is currently hospitalised after he allegedly swerved the bicycle he was riding into the path of motorcar driven by a Police constable.

According to a Police release, the accident took place on December 8, 2021, at around 20:40 hours at Cummings Lodge, Railway Embankment, Greater Georgetown.

Enquiries disclosed that 21-year-old Anjermo Jacobs, a Police constable, was driving motorcar PAB 4328 which was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of Cummings Lodge, Railway Embankment.

While the Police constable was in the process of driving past the labourer, it is alleged that he swerved the bicycle into the path of the motorcar.

As a result, the left side front fender of the motorcar collided with the rear of the pedal cycle. The 55-year-old man fell onto the road and received injuries to his body.

He was picked up in a conscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by an ambulance. While at the hospital, the labourer was examined and found to be suffering from brain injuries. His condition is stable.

A notice of intended prosecution has been served after a breathalyzer test conducted on the Police constable gave a reading of .000% BAC.  He remains in custody pending further investigation.
