Keon Carr, a 23-year-old construction worker of 190 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) has been charged with murdering his workmate.
He appeared before Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that he murdered Chris Gaichan Narine called ‘Boyo’, a 19-year-old construction worker of 137 Recht-Door-Zee, WBD, on July 13.
The murder accused was remanded to prison until August 4.
Police Headquarters had said that the killing took place at about 16:50 at Independence Drive in the vicinity of Third Avenue, La Parfaite Harmonie, WBD.
Enquiries disclosed that the now deceased teenager and his uncle Gansham Singh, 23, a construction worker, were riding home on a bicycle heading in a western direction.
Carr, who was on an electric bike, approached them from the opposite direction. As Car approached the duo, he attacked Narine. Narine’s uncle ran away, leaving the teen in a scuffle with Carr.
As the uncle was running away, he turned around and saw Carr with an orange handle pair of scissors in his right hand.
The murder accused is alleged to have dealt the 19-year-old two stabs – one to the lower abdomen and another to the left shoulder – after which he made good his escape on the electrical bike.
Narine’s uncle picked up the bicycle in an attempt to take his nephew to the station but the 19-year-old collapsed on the road.
The uncle then rode his bicycle to the Police station and reported the matter.
A Police vehicle went to the scene from where the victim was picked up and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
On arrival at the hospital, Narine was treated but succumbed to his injuries later that day.
Police carried out investigations which led to the arrest of Carr.
