The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) is currently investigating what led to a motorcar catching fire during the wee hours of Thursday. A Police report said that the vehicle valued at $2.2 million is owned by 52-year-old Edward Taylor.

Taylor said that he secured the motorcar PSS 407 on Wednesday at about 21:00 hours and parked it on the eastern side of Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The car was parked facing north about 40 feet from his home. He then went inside his home.

While Taylor was in bed, at around 02:30 hours on Thursday, he heard a loud explosion coming from the front of the yard. As a result, he looked through his window from where he saw his motorcar engulfed in flames.

The GFS was alerted and at about 03:00 hours, firemen from the Campbellville, Georgetown Fire Service arrived at the scene. But by then, the car was completely gutted. The matter was reported to the Police station. Investigations are ongoing.
