CANU destroys $70M in marijuana found at Victoria Backdam

On November 23, 2021, a team of Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU)  officers acting on intelligence conducted a narcotics operation at Victoria Backdam, East Coast Demerara. 

At the location, they discovered a camp located on a one-acre land consisting of a quantity of male and female clothing, a total of 5000 cannabis plants ranging from three to five feet in height, and 15 100 pounds salt bags containing 500 kilogrammes of processed cannabis.

No one was seen, nor arrested during the operation. The cannabis plants along with the bags of cannabis were eradicated. The street value of the 500 kilogrammes of cannabis, according to CANU,  is GY$70,000,000.

Investigations are ongoing.
