Buxton man remanded for shooting at woman


A 31-year-old man who is accused of discharging a gun at a 28-year-old woman, was on Monday remanded to prison. 

Ceon Thomas of Lot 10 Company Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD) appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

He was slapped with two charges. 

The first change stated that on December 11, 2021, at Company Road, Buxton, ECD he discharged a loaded firearm with intent contrary to section 55 (a) of the Criminal (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01.

It was further alleged that on the same day and at the same location, he had a .40 Glock pistol along with three matching rounds in his possession when he was not the holder of a firearm licence enforced at the time.

Thomas pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read to him.  He will make his next court appearance on February 3, 2022, for statements.

According to information, the woman made a report to the Police station about the suspect discharging a gun at her. As such, a party of Policemen went to his home.

On arrival, Police found Thomas in his bedroom with the firearm in his hand. A Police report stated that upon seeing the Police ranks, he attempted to hide the gun.

Police were able to retrieve the gun and matching rounds from him. He was then escorted to the Vigilance Police Station where the illegal items were lodged.
