A 35-year-old man was on Thursday found guilty of trafficking four pounds of marijuana and sentenced to three years imprisonment along with a fine of $2M.
Floyd Adonis called ‘Bull Boy’ of 109 Gravis Street, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice (WBB), was on trial for the offence before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court.
He had initially denied the charge which stated that on May 20, 2021, at Fort Wellington, Public Road, West Coast Berbice (WCB), he had 4,535 grammes of marijuana in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The Police prosecutor stated that on the day in question, Adonis entered minibus BXX 5866 with a bulky bag which he give a tout to place under the conductor’s seat.
The court heard the minibus was later intercepted by Police at Fort Wellington Public Road, WCB where the bag was opened and found to contain two bulky parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Adonis was then arrested, told of the allegation, and cautioned. He, however, denied owning the drug. He was taken to the Police station where the cannabis was weighed in his presence. He was later charged with the offence.
