Boy (13) dead after ingesting poisonous substance; several family members hospitalised in critical state

A 13-year-old boy of Aruca, North West District is now dead while several of his family members are hospitalised in a critical condition after they allegedly ingested a poisonous substance.

Dead is Rondel Henry, a student of the Aruca Mouth Primary School. Hospitalised are his father, Ronald David, 52; his mother, Donette Henry, 34; his brothers, Kevin Henry, 11, and four-year-old Kelvin Henry; and his sister, seven-year-old Celina Henry 

A Police report stated that on December 19, 2021, at about 16:00 hrs, the now-dead lad and his family members began experiencing diarrhea and vomiting after allegedly consuming a locally made liquid product. 

The following day, Rondel Henry was found lying motionless at his home. He was later taken to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.  A post mortem examination will be conducted on his remains soon. 

The other family members were immediately taken to Mabaruma Regional Hospital where they were all seen by doctors and admitted as patients in a critical condition. 

On December 20 at about 16:00 hrs, a team of environmental officers and Police ranks visited the scene where checks were made on and around the premises but no containers or anything relating to a poisonous substance was found. 

Police ranks are closely working along with the health officials and investigations are in progress.
