Berbice man hospitalised after chopped during argument over women

A 46-year-old man is currently hospitalised after being chopped several times following an argument over two women. He has been identified as John Mark Nascimento of Kilmarnack Village, Corentyne, Berbice.  A Police report said the incident took place on Sunday at around 23:30 hours at Cromarty Village, Corentyne, Berbice. 

Nascimento told the Police that he was at “Chunku Shop” imbibing with the women after which he left for home. While on his way home, he related that he was confronted by the suspect and an argument ensued between them over the women he was drinking with.

Nascimento said that the suspect pulled out a cutlass and dealt him several chops about his body causing him to receive injuries to his neck, hand, and head. The suspect then made good his escape in an unknown direction.  The victim reported the matter to the Whim Police Station and ranks escorted him to the Port Mourant Public Hospital. 

At the hospital, he was seen, examined, treated, and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he is currently admitted as a patient in a stable condition. Checks were made for the suspect but he was not found. Investigations are ongoing.
