A 60-year-old businessman was robbed by two men armed with guns shortly after arriving at his Belvedere Village, Corentyne, Berbice home on Thursday evening.
Police in a release stated that the victim concluded his daily business and headed home in his motor van with an undisclosed amount of cash and other items.
When the businessman arrived at his residence, he exited his motor van, opened his gate, and was suddenly confronted by two males who held him at gunpoint.
The armed men demanded him to hand over cash, and his other belongings. When the businessman hesitated, the two armed men dealt him several lashes to his head with their guns.
One of the men then held onto him, while his accomplice went into the man’s motor van and removed a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash, two Samsung Galaxy tablets valued at $100,000, a bluetooth automatic box valued at $65,000, a quantity of Digicel and GTT phone cards and documents.
They then escaped on separate bicycles. The victim was later taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away. The matter was then reported and an investigation is ongoing.
