A man who was recently charged with stealing a motorcycle was brought to court on Monday to face charges for robbery and assault.  Louie Lewis of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The first charge stated that on February 4, 2021, at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he assaulted Vinshawly Kandasammy. It was further alleged that on February 9, 2021, at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he robbed Vinshawly Kandasammy of a printer valued at $111,000, one camera valued at $160,000, and other items totaling $1.2 million and at the same time used personal violence against him.

Lewis denied both charges after they were read to him.

The court prosecutor, Annalisa Brummel objected to bail being granted to Lewis because he has pending matters before the court. The prosecutor also highlighted the fact that the virtual complainant is known to Lewis and identified him as the person who assaulted and robbed him.

After Kandasammy was robbed, he reported the matter to the Police. And following investigations, Lewis was arrested and charged with the offences.

Magistrate Daly remanded Lewis to prison until October 18, 2021.

Last February, Lewis appeared before the same magistrate after he was accused of stealing a motorcycle belonging to Vinshawly Kandasammy.

He had denied the charge which stated that between June 5 and June 6, 2020, at Lot 227 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he stole a black Yamaha 1000 motorcycle bearing registration number CF 8564, valued at $2 million, property of Kandasammy.

It was reported that on the day in question, Kandasammy parked his motorcycle at his home but when he woke up the following morning, he discovered that the motorcycle was missing.

He immediately made a Police report.

Sometime later, Kandasammy, while in the vicinity of Success, East Coast Demerara (ECD), saw Lewis riding his bike. He immediately alerted the Police and the man was arrested and charged.
