A six-year-old girl went down on her knees and called out to God for help as she watched her 40-year-old father Dwayne Williams launch a brutal knife attack on her mother, grandmother and, uncle on Sunday, last, at Best Village, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Injured are Ganwanttie Ramdeo, 36, who was stabbed multiple times to her neck and about her body by Williams, her ex-partner; Mahadai Ramdeo, 58, her mother, was stabbed about her body six times; while her uncle 48-year-old Anil Jagmohan sustained four stab wounds. Another relative, Deomattie Persaud, 55, received minor injuries about her body.
During an interview with They Break News, Ramdeo explained that she and Williams share a daughter from a common-law relationship that ended in February of this year. Asked why her ex would want to harm her, she said that she does not know. She explained that she broke up with him after she found out he was having an affair with another woman.
According to her, on Sunday, last, Williams, who resides at Crane Village, WCD showed up at her home in a drunken state, whipped out a knife from the waist of his pants, and attacked her. While Williams mercilessly stabbed her, she recalled that she shouted for her relatives, some of whom came to her rescue. But the enraged man attacked them too.
Ramdeo’s six-year-old, who saw what transpired then ran to the front of the yard, went down on her knees, and began praying to God to save her mother, grandmother, and uncle. “I ran out to the road and sit on the ground like a frog holding my tummy and screamed for help,” the child recounted.
Williams only stopped attacking his ex-lover and her relatives after a gardener intervened and dealt him several lashes about his body with a spade. As for Ramdeo, she ran onto the Public Road and stopped a passing taxi which took her to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
But as the taxi driver was proceeding to his destination, an angry Williams, who is also a taxi driver, ran onto the road. He then attempted to drive behind the car but the other victims managed to alert other drivers who then blocked his car. Those injured were treated at the said hospital and subsequently discharged.
Williams was apprehended by the Police and later released on $10,000 station bail. The gardener who also went to the victims’ rescue was also arrested and later released on station bail after Williams alleged that the man attacked him.
“As usual the backward Guyana Police Force released a man who attempted to murder four persons on $10,000 bail but arrested. We are calling on Minister [of Home Affairs] Robeson Benn and the Commander for help since the victims are at home and Dwayne is on the loose,” said one of Ramdeo’s relatives.
Several days after the incident occurred, the Guyana Police Force is yet to release a report.
