An operation conducted over a two-week period by Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) officers along with Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard ranks has led to the seizure of 1000.2 pounds of local as well as foreign marijuana, three Go-Fast vessels, and six outboard engines.
The drug bust was made on Friday night, CANU said in a press statement. Six persons have been arrested and are in custody assisting with investigations.
CANU reported that it gathered critical intelligence on the movement of narcotics from Guyana by a local drug trafficking organisation to other Caribbean territories. As such, its ranks conducted operations in Regions 4,5, 6, and 7, which resulted in the drugs being confiscated.
According to CANU, the narcotics carry a street value of US$2.26 million at its final destination.
