A 45-year-old labourer of Better Success Public Road, Essequibo Coast, was on Wednesday remanded to prison for allegedly stealing 24 ducks, 50 chickens, and a pig.
Raphael Manttoos called “Tag” was arraigned before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on a simple larceny charge.
It is alleged that between October 3 and 4, he stole 24 ducks valued at $124,000, 50 chickens valued at $200,000, two bags of fertilizer valued at $22,000, and a pig valued at $25,000.
The animals belong to Isaac Persaud called “Justman”, a 63-year-old farmer of Lot AA Better Success, Essequibo Coast. Manttoos pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In the end, he was remanded to prison until November 28.
