23-Y-O man arrested after CANU discovers camp with 3000 ganja plants

A 23-year-old man is now in Police custody following a narcotic operation at St Cuthbert’s Mission on the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway. 

On Friday, Customs Anti- Narcotic Unit (CANU) ranks acting on information conducted a narcotics operation there and discovered a camp located on 2.5-acres of land with a total of 3000 cannabis plants ranging from three to six feet in height along with processed cannabis and a quantity of cannabis seeds.

Twenty-three-year-old Shafeer Sanichar was discovered under a makeshift tent processing cannabis plants at one of the fields. He was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the items.

CANU said it continues to conduct operations around the country aimed at dismantling the networks that are engaged in the sale as well as distribution of narcotics.

Investigations are presently ongoing.
