$22 MILLION DOLLARS IN EQUIPMENT DONATED TO REG 9 FARMERS

Minister Mustapha told the farmers that the government remains committed to improving and developing the agriculture sector.

Farmers in Region Nine benefitted from $22 million in inputs, under the Ministry of Agriculture, ‘Improvement Support Program. Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha also commissioned a $15 million agro-processing facility in St Ignatius Village Central Rupununi, Region Nine.

Among the $22 million worth of inputs that were handed over to the farmers from various villages under the Ministry’s Improvement Support Program were: farming tools, seeds, shade house materials, seeds, coconut seedlings, chemicals, a tractor, disc ploughs, roam ploughs, ATV, cassava sticks, and improved breeding materials for poultry, swine, and cattle

During the handing-over ceremony, Minister Mustapha told the farmers that the government remains committed to improving and developing the sector. The minister also revealed that the delivery of the equipment was an answer to the request of the farmers to president Irfaan Ali for equipment to boost their production.

At the commissioning of the 15 million dollars agro-processing facility in St Ignatius, Minister Mustapha told farmers that the government recognizes the importance of agro-processing, and as such, the facility was made operational for the benefit of all farmers who require assistance to process their produce.

The rehabilitated facility is expected to improve the socio-economic status of all within the region through the creation of employment for approximately 100 farmers. The facility’s production capacity is projected at 6,480kg of peanuts and cashew nut butter, and 50kg of dehydrated fruits and vegetables monthly.
