An 18-year-old cashier attached to the Papie Superbet was last evening robbed of a sum of cash at knifepoint. The incident took place around 21:00 hrs at Tuschen Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
A Police report stated that the cashier was closing the Superbet shop when an identifiable male walked into the place and pulled out a white-handled knife from his waist.
The suspect then pointed the knife to the victim’s chest area and subsequently dealt him several lashes about his body. He then slammed the victim’s head against the wall.
The suspect then went into the cashier’s area and removed $367,000 in cash from a box and made good his escape on foot in a southern direction. The victim raised an alarm and the Police were summoned.
The victim received injuries to his right side jaw area and as a result, he was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was treated by a doctor and sent away.
Police are on the hunt for the suspect as investigations continue.
