A family outing turned deadly after a 10-year-old boy reportedly drowned in the Hope Seawalls, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Sunday.
The dead child has been identified as 10-year-old Anand Mangroo of Lot 380 Hope Low Lands, ECD.
According to the Police, the deceased, along with his 13-year-old brother and an eight-year-old cousin, were at Hope Seawall swimming when a wave-lashed the deceased towards the Koker channel. The boy went down in the water and did not surface back.
Upon seeing this, his brother shouted for help, but no one went to his assistance.
As a result, Police were informed about the incident, and they showed up at the scene, and a search was launched.
However, at 20:20hrs, the body of Mangroo was fished out of the water at Hope Foreshore. The body is now awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).
