A man is now dead after being crushed to death by a truck on the Hope West Enmore Access Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), yesterday.
The dead man has been identified as 38-year-old Rajin Persaud, a goldsmith of Foulis Village on the ECD.
According to a police report, Persaud was crushed by motor lorry GWW 8721, which 34-year-old Tillackram Dindial of Enmore was driving at 19:30hrs.
The report further stated that the truck, which was parked on the northern parapet of the road in the vicinity of the driver’s premises, was offloading sand.
The driver then lowered the tray and began to reverse. His wife then began to shout at him, informing him that he ran over one of their dogs. Upon checking, the driver observed Persaud under the truck covered in blood.
He was then picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead on arrival. An investigation has since been launched.
