As Expo 2020 Dubai opened its doors to the world, representatives from 192 countries will showcase their homeland’s art, culture, talent, people, and more.
Guyana will be represented by a star-studded line-up of singers, dancers, a painter, and a spoken word poet, who have been preparing for the grand stage for the last three months.
Guyana’s delegation comprises singers and songwriters: Samuel Medas, Poonam Singh, Tennicia De Freitas, and Gavin Mendonca; speed painter: Winston Alexander; spoken word artiste: Daniela Araujo and dancers from the National School of Dance: Soprano Hendericks, Sattie Udho Joseph Bobb, Maresha Arthur, and Jemal Ellis.
These individuals were selected by a panel of judges and have been deemed some of Guyana’s best. They would have proven themselves as outstanding creatives in their varying fields.
They were chosen based on several qualities and different strengths to create a team that will showcase Guyana’s diverse culture on the international stage. The team has been working for the last three months on their stage performance, dance moves, execution, among other areas.
The team left for Dubai on October 14. Guyana’s team for the Expo 2020 Dubai is “Home of Nature, Land of Opportunities”. The country’s national day will be observed tomorrow, Tuesday, October 19.
President Irfaan Ali left Guyana on Saturday for Dubai. He is expected to deliver remarks at the event.
The event, which was initially scheduled for last year, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and has attracted representatives from most countries in the world.
Although Expo 2020 Dubai officially started on October 1, a team from Guyana has been in Dubai since early September preparing Guyana’s booth, which is showcasing opportunities available here as well as the country’s beauty. Expo 2020 Dubai will run until March 31, 2022.
