Sherwin Smith, who was stabbed during Easter Day celebrations has died, Police Headquarters has said. His alleged killer is in Police custody.
On Monday, Smith attended an Easter Day activity at the Mabaruma Settlement Ground, North West District (NWD).
A Policeman, who was on duty at the eastern gate, saw the suspect, who was armed with a knife, approaching Smith.
Police said the suspect dealt Smith two stabs about his body. As a result, the Policeman immediately arrested him and took away the knife from him.
Smith ran to a nearby car and was rushed to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital where he was immediately taken into the Emergency Unit and treated. However, at around 20:00 hrs, he succumbed to his injuries.
A team of Police ranks visited the Mabaruma Regional Hospital where they observed Smith with injuries to his left side abdomen and to his neck.
His body was then escorted to the mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination. The suspect is presently in custody at the Mabaruma Police Station.
Investigations are ongoing.
