Hours after escaping from the Lusignan Prison on the East Coast of Demerara, 38-year-old Quincy Clarke was recaptured by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in Albouystown, Georgetown.
The prisoner was recaptured on Calendar Street, Albouystown, at about 18:50 hrs.
Reports are that Police acting on information received, dispatched a party of policemen to a house at Calendar Street, where the prisoner was apprehended and taken to the Brickdam Police Station.
He was later uplifted by ranks from the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) and returned to Lusignan Prison, where he is currently in custody.
Clarke, who hails from West La Penitence, Georgetown, had escaped from prison earlier Saturday morning.
This publication had reported that two ranks who were working at the holding bay noticed an unidentifiable male running and pushing a black and red XR motorcycle.
The officers shouted at the male to stop, but he refused, and a chase ensued. Clarke then dropped the motorcycle, and jumped a trench, and ran into some bushes making good his escape.
The ranks who gave chase later learned that the individual was a prisoner and the motorcycle belonged to a Prison officer.
The 38-year-old prison was sentenced to two-four weeks terms concurrently for two counts of threatening language on July 29, 2021.
