A 56-year-old coconut vendor this morning succumbed to the injuries he received after being beaten in front of a church and then dragged home.
Dead is Fredrick De Souza of Ituni Village, Region 10.
They Break News was reliably informed that the man was beaten by a known suspect at about 4:00 hrs yesterday morning.
A source told this publication that De Souza, who was intoxicated at the time, was in front of the Burning Bush Deliverance Church when he was beaten by the suspect.
The suspect then dragged the man from in front of the church to his home.
However, on Tuesday morning, De Souza was discovered lying in an unconscious state, bearing wounds to his head, abdomen and feet and was rushed to the Ituni Health Center.
He was later transferred to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries early this morning.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement claimed that cops received an unknown call from someone, who stated that a male was seen lying in front of his house at BQ Ituni.
Upon arrival, the man was observed in an unconscious state in front of his home with marks of violence.
The suspect was contacted and was observed to have a wound above his right eye.
When questioned about how he was injured, the man stated that the victim told him not to enter his yard, following a misunderstanding.
He said he entered the yard and the victim allegedly dealt him a lash with a picket.
The suspect further stated that he took away the said picket, and inflicted injuries to the victim.
He was escorted to the Ituni Health Care Centre to receive treatment for his injuries and later taken into custody, where he remains, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
