A Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) Enforcement Officer’s life was cut short after being killed this morning by his landlord’s son.
Dead is 24-year-old Dwayne Daniel Taitt of Lot 2 Middleton Street, Campbellville. The incident occurred at about 00:30hrs this morning.
This publication understands that Taitt was renting an apartment from the suspect’s mother, Jacklyn Lamaizon, where he resided with his reputed wife and 2-year-old daughter.
The deceased’s reputed wife alleges that yesterday at about 17:30hrs, she, along with the deceased, was at home when the landlady told them in the presence of the suspect that they have up to the 14th July 2021 to move out.
However, later in the day, Taitt and his family were sleeping when they were awakened by the suspect banging on their apartment door with a piece of wood while he shouted at them to move out.
As a result of the suspect’s actions, Taitt opened the door and went out to the man who was armed with a knife.
The officer saw this and then ran out on the street opposite the apartment, where the suspect pursued and dealt him a stab to his chest, which caused Taitt to fell to the ground.
The suspect then fled the scene with the murder weapon. Nevertheless, the Enforcement Officer was picked up by his reputed wife and a security guard and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
The body was examined, and a wound was seen to his left upper chest. He was further escorted to the said hospital mortuary awaiting Post Mortem Examination (PME).
When this publication arrived on the scene, residents were seen gathered and could be heard describing Taitt as “a good man.”
Additionally, Taitt’s reputed wife is currently evacuating the premises.
Meanwhile, the suspect was later found and arrested and is presently in police custody. The weapon was recovered, and statements were taken. Investigations are in progress.
