Four in custody following murder of overseas-based Guyanese


Four men are in police custody following the murder of overseas-based Guyanese, Hemraj Pardesi also called “Prem,” which occurred at Reliance Settlement, East Canje Berbice, on Tuesday. 

The 60-year-old man was killed at about 23:42 hrs. They Break News understands that the suspects are three males and one female aged 22, 28, 31, and 36, respectively.

Reports are that Pardesi, who resides abroad, recently came to Guyana in July 2021, and was residing alone at Reliance Settlement, East Canje Berbice. 

The man’s nephew reportedly told investigators that he was last seen alive and well on Tuesday, in the company of another male. 

However, police, who responded to the crime scene, discovered Pardesi lying motionless face down with what appears to be blood coming from his nose, and duck tape around his neck. 

Several traces of what appears to be blood was seen on the step leading to the upper flat of the house. In fact, further investigation by police discovered that the upper flat of the house was ransacked. 

Pardesi was pronounced dead by a doctor at 02:15hrs, and the body is presently at the Arokium Funeral Home, awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination (PME). 

“Further intelligence-led investigations led to the arrest of the four suspects as investigations continue,” police said.
