A father of three of Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) who allegedly confessed to hitting down a father of two with his motor car and then dumping him in a trench, was on Friday slapped with six charges when he appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
Daniel Melbourne, 53, was charged with: causing death by dangerous driving; failure to report an accident; failure to render assistance; failure to produce his vehicle for examination, giving false information to the Police, and attempting to obstruct the course of justice.
The accused, who was represented by Attorney-at-Law Patrice Henry, was remanded to prison until July 22. Attorney-at-Law Bernard Da Silva is representing the interest of Williams’ family.
Melbourne appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
On Tuesday, ranks of the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Major Crimes Investigation Unit discovered a decomposed body believed to be that of a 50-year-old accident victim and father of two, Reonol Williams, in a trench at Coldingen, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Williams disappeared on May 22 after he was struck down by a motor car, PAB 2552 belonging to Melbourne at Enmore, ECD. Melbourne, who was arrested during the initial stage of investigations and released on station bail, was rearrested on Tuesday and later charged.
