Duo charged with murder of Belfield taxi driver

Kenty Bacchus called ‘Trini’ and Seyon James called ‘Lil Alfey’ were today charged with the murder of 53-year-old taxi driver Kenrick Trim.

The duo appeared before Her Worship Rushelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge. They were both remanded to prison until August 6, 2021.

Trim’s body was found around 9:00hrs on June 30th, 2021, at Cul-de-Sac Street, Block 1 Ogle, on the East Coast Demerara (ECD).

According to initial reports, following the arrest of the two suspects in connection with the murder of the Belfield taxi driver, James had confessed seeing Bacchus stabbing the now dead man.

The 24-year-old man explained that Bacchus had picked him up on June 30, 2021, from the bus park, and they both went to a fast-food outlet on Carmichael Street to purchase something to eat.

They then stopped a taxi which the now dead man was driving at the time, and they both entered the vehicle. James relayed that he sat in the back passenger’s seat while Bacchus had sat behind Trim.

He then revealed that Bacchus then pulled the taxi driver over to the back seat, where he dealt the man several stabbed wounds about his body.

He noted that Bacchus then removed the man’s gold ring and chain along with a quantity of cash he had in his pocket and a black Samsung cellphone.

James added that Bacchus then drove the car to a spot in Ogle, where he dumped Trim’s body. He then attempted to reverse the car, but it was stuck in the mud, and they both exited the vehicle.

Bacchus then handed him $10,000, after which he (Bacchus) threw the knife in a nearby bush, and they both boarded a minibus and went back to Georgetown.

Trim, who had left home at 07:30hrs on the day of his death, was found lying motionless at 09:00hrs at Cul-de-Sac Street, Block 1 Ogle, on the ECD.

The dead man’s body was later escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
